Calm and discretion with every phone call

In psychological counselling, the barrier to making a phone call is often high. People seeking help are sometimes in a vulnerable state. A cold, robotic voice or an endless ringing tone until the connection is lost immediately conveys a sense of rejection. On the other hand, as a therapist, you find yourself in conversations where safety, silence and your full attention are absolute requirements. Simply answering the phone is rarely an option. A warm, human voice on the phone bridges that gap and gently supports the client when you yourself are unavailable.

A professionally configured telephone system in a psychologist’s practice does more than just take messages. It sets clear boundaries. Through a clear message, you can calmly specify when your telephone consultation hours take place and, more importantly, how the client should act in the event of an acute crisis. By referring clients to a suicide helpline, the GP out-of-hours service or A&E, you take responsibility without disrupting your own schedule. This structure not only provides reassurance for the client, but also gives you the peace of mind to carry out your work to the best of your ability.
